Important note from Band Director Mr. Archer:
You cannot miss band camp for vacation. It is a requirement for participation. Consider it summer reading: graded and not optional. Refer to the handbook.
We are a team who all depend on each other every step of the way, and one student’s absence makes all the other students’ jobs harder and have to be repeated. Please do everything in your power to make sure you are present everyday.

Things you'll want to make sure you bring:
Because it's August and it will be hot, and we need to be outside, we are asking if any families are willing to let us borrow EZ Up Canopies (or the like). If you have one that you'd be willing to lend us, we would set up during outdoor sessions for short breaks in the shade and store overnight to return to you on August 10th. Your kids would appreciate the added shade and I'd appreciate your generosity.
To help with understanding Band Dues for the year, I'm attaching a Band Dues Ticket that merges the things your student may need. These include percussion sticks, lyres, flip folders, percussion practice pads, etc. Please remember that we can set up a plan if you can't make one payment and that no one will be dismissed from the band because of finances. Band is an INCLUSIVE activity!
Band Camp Goals:
We plan to complete the show by the end of band camp, which means we need all students on board, all of the time. Missing days due to vacation is completely unacceptable and unfair to those students who are present. I can't over-emphasize the importance of attendance!
Staff Intros:
Guard Directors: Paula Salvador & Bianca Albu
Percussion Director: Bryce Campbell
Brass Instructor: Thomas Waggner
Drum Majors: Elisa Huang, Lauren DeSantis
These folks will be here each day to help us achieve our goals throughout the season. They will be running activities, keeping us focused, and bringing out the best in us. They, as am I, are here for you. Respect them as you would me and thank them for their contribution to the success of the Yellow Jacket Marching Band. They each have fantastic experiences in the world of music performance to bring to our group. What an inspirational journey to come!
Performance Schedule:
Athletics was checked for each performance and we should all be good to go. Because I don't know who plays which sport, make sure each of you email me individually your scheduling conflicts.
Band Class:
Please make sure that your class schedule, when it comes, lists Band or Percussion as a class. Color Guard members are required to sign up for the 2-day Colorguard Activity Block, which is also a graded class.
- Sunscreen, Hat, & Sunglasses are needed for all outdoor activities (which is most of it).
- Big refillable water jug. We'll also have water bottles available.
- Instrument and all of its parts.
- Lyres/Flip Folders (Required)
- Music (available on Schoology)
- Sneakers and socks. Sneakers only - no flip flops, crocs, birks, or slides.
- A shirt change could be nice to break up morning and afternoon outdoor sessions.
- Face Mask and Bell Cover

Need to Know:
- READ THE NHS MARCHING BAND STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK!! It contains everything you need to know about NHS Band Camp, participation in the NHS Marching Band and how parents can help their children and our highly regarded marching band succeed.
- The musicians will work hard, but there is lots of fun too which helps them form a strong bond and dynamic team spirit that only gets stronger throughout the year and beyond.
- Drum majors and section leaders plan special events during the day that may involve funny clothes or hats or ...
- It's HOT in August. Wear light colored, loose fitting clothes, comfortable shoes, a hat and sunglasses. Bring sunscreen and a water jug.
- The music boosters supply water bottles and occasional treats each day. We are always looking for volunteers. Any help is greatly appreciated by all.
- Any parents interested in bringing snacks, EZ-up shades we can borrow for the week (the more the merrier), drinks. Stop by on occasion to help with hydration/sunscreen/student welfare...helps to have an extra set of eyes.
- On the final day of band camp, the band will perform their entire show. Family and friends are encouraged to attend. You will be amazed and proud.
BE PUNCTUAL!

to be late is not to be.
