We're going to Orlando!

Our 2023 Spring Trip to Orlando, Florida includes staying on Disney property, visiting both Universal Studios and the four Disney Parks, and participating in exciting workshops orchestrated by industry leading Disney Professionals.  All meals, tickets, tee shirts, workshops, resorts, and Charter Bus transportation are included in your trip!

You're Invited!
All Newark High School Performing Arts Students are allowed to attend.  If you're a member of the Marching Band, Chorus, or Theater Programs, then you're invited!

Parks & Activities

Walt Disney World
We will be visiting Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.  
  • Animal Kingdom: Six lands in one park - The Oasis, Discovery Island, DinoLand USA, Africa, Asia, and Pandora: The World of Avatar.  Features: animals, nature trails, and wilderness exploration.  Rides: Flight of Passage (Avatar), Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na'vi River Journey, Kali River Rapids (wet).  Big Attraction:  The Tree of Life.
  • Epcot: Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow celebrate community, culture, human achievement, new ideas, and new technologies.  Lots of food, attractions, street shows, and shopping.  Pavilions:  Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, Morocco, France, the UK, and Canada.  Rides: Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Spaceship Earth, Soarin', Mission: SPACE, Test Track, Turtle Talk with Crush, Frozen Ever After, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, and others. Big Attraction: Epcot Dome
  • Magic Kingdom: the park most associated with Disney World.  It was the first Park and has the iconic Cinderella Castle.  Lands: Main Street USA, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Adventureland.  Rides: Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, It's A Small World, and more.  Big Attraction: Cinderella's Castle
  • Hollywood Studios: a park geared towards immersing visitors into their favorite movies.  Districts: Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake, Grand Avenue, Commissary Lane, Pixar Place, Animation Courtyard, Sunset Boulevard, Toy Story Land, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.  Rides: Star Wars: Rise of Resistance, Tower of Terror, Toy Story Midway Mania, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.  Big Attraction: Mickey's Sorcerer Hat

  • Universal Studios: Areas: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley, Springfield: Home of the Simpsons, New York - Jimmy Fallon.  Rides: Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Transformers 3D Ride, Race through New York with Jimmy Fallon, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Revenge of the Mummy, ET Adventure, Fast and Furious Supercharged, Men In Black Alien Attack, The Simpsons Ride, Hogwarts Express at King's Cross Station (access to Island's of Adventure).

Disney Workshops

Instrumental Soundtrack Sessions
  • Experience the excitement, focus, and fast-paced energy of a professional recording studio environment. During this workshop participants will sight-read and work directly with industry professionals to create a truly magical ensemble piece. The experience culminates with a screening of their recorded work set to Disney film footage.
  • Throughout the workshop, students will hone fundamental skills like intonation, balance, and tone quality, as well as learn how phrasing, dynamics, and articulation can add emotion to any piece of music. Disney music professionals will share insights about the high expectations of being a professional musician and how to succeed in the field. Endorsed by the National Association for Music Education, this workshop is sure to hit all the right notes.
  • After completing this workshop, participants will be able to: Sight-read and record a varied repertoire of Disney music; Sight-read, listen, analyze, and describe music; Develop and reinforce the fundamentals of musical performance; Learn what it's like to work in the music industry as a professional; Emphasize intonation, balance, and tone quality while following the conductor's interpretation; Incorporate accuracy and expressiveness to maximize rehearsal productivity; Discuss the requirements of a studio recording environment and what is expected of performers; Evaluate music and musical performances

Broadway Magic
  • Experience the glitz and glamour of live musical theater at this immersive performance workshop created in partnership with Disney Theatrical Group, Disney on Broadway and Disney Cruise Line.
  • Get an inside look at the fundamentals of musical theater with industry professionals who will lead students through fast-paced rehearsals of a scene from one of Disney’s world-famous shows. The experience culminates in a show-stopping final performance.
  • ​Throughout this workshop, participants will also gain valuable insights into audition techniques, the importance of every role, and overcoming unexpected obstacles during performances.
  • After completing this workshop, participants will be able to: Create an inclusive and safe audition space; Focus on breath control and diction to better tell a story; Examine how body language, facial expressions and vocal qualities impact a character; Discuss how various production roles come together to create a finished product; Make the best vocal/acting choices for a musical composition, lyrics and character

Technology of Disney Parks
  • Storytelling is at the very heart of everything we do at Disney. Wherever you are in our theme parks and resorts, you are immersed in our stories. And technology has played a major role in how we are able tell those stories.
  • Central to each attraction and themed land within Disney Parks is a story, and through innovative technology, we are able to tell those stories in new and exciting ways. In this engaging, interactive course, students will work in groups while getting an inside look at how our Disney Imagineers dream, design, and use technology to enhance the Guest experience by immersing them in our stories. From audio-animatronics to light and sound effects, students will learn why technology is the most valuable and most challenging tool to integrate into daily theme park operations.
  • After completing this workshop, participants will be able to: Describe Walt Disney’s contributions to progress and utilization of technology in theme park experiences; Define the difference between hydraulics and pneumatics, and explain the benefits of each; Understand how sound and light can impact the emotions in a given experience; Gain knowledge of the history and progression of theme park technologies; Experience the versatility of specific technology being used in very different ways; Articulate how acoustical engineering applies to the design of our spaces

April 18th Tuesday - Travel Day
  • 7:00am - All students attend all classes
  • 2:00pm - All students go home (Do Not leave your car in the lot all week)
  • 4:00pm - Traveller Report Time
  • 4:15pm - Load Equipment (All Instruments loaded under bus first)
  • 4:45pm - Load People
  • 5:00pm - Depart Newark HS (15 hr journey)

April 19th Wednesday - Animal Kingdom Day
  • 8:00am - Arrive Disney All Star Resort

April 20th Thursday - Epcot Day
  • 7:00am - All Star Breakfast Opens

Packing List

  • 1 Medium Suitcase, 1 Carry-On per Traveller
  • All student belongings are subject to search prior and during the trip for safety reason

Food

  • Students will receive a daily stipend that is enough to cover several meals and snacks each day (at WDW/Universal Park prices) 
  • Some food will be provided on the Buses
  • Food Specialty and Medication info can be provided in Registration
